Is Computer-Based Testing Right for Me?
You may want to consider computer-based testing (CBT) if you want to
- read and answer multiple-choice questions on computer;
- type your responses to the constructed-response assignment(s) on the test, if applicable;
- test at a location in Michigan or out of state;
- take the test on a weekday or Saturday;
- take the test on a day or in a month when there is no scheduled paper-based test administration;
- schedule your test appointment for a time that is convenient for you.
Before registering for a computer-based test, you should note the following:
- The test fee for computer-based tests differs from the fee for paper-based tests.
- Test appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis, and seating is limited.
- You must wait 30 days after taking a test before retaking the same test on paper or computer, as outlined in the MTTC Retake Policy.
- Each appointment is for a single session of testing. You may take either one subject-area test or the Professional Readiness Examination (any single subtest or all three) during one session. If you wish to take a subject-area test in addition to the Professional Readiness Examination, you must register for each session separately.
Finding information about computer-based testing is easy!
On the website, whenever there is information that is different for paper-based and computer-based testing, you will see tabs at the top of the page that allow you to click back and forth between the two sections. An example of these navigational tabs is shown below.

Registration and testing information that is specific to computer-based testing may also be identified by the picture of a computer that appears on the left. Just look for this icon or use the tabs to find CBT information!
